Job summary

TN DOH is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for a part-time role, up to 10 hours per month (75 hours/year). Flexible Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 am–4:30 pm, with potential travel within the Upper Cumberland Region.

Responsibilities include clinical nursing duties, patient assessment, diagnosis, and prescribing non-controlled medications as allowed. 60-day certification deadlines apply for Tennessee RN/APRN licensure and mandatory Certificate of Fitness.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed or eligible for RN with APRN in Tennessee.
• Must obtain national certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
• Certificate of Fitness from Tennessee Board of Nursing required within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, diagnosis and nursing/medical care for patients and families.
• Write and sign prescriptions or issue non-controlled legend drugs as allowed.
• Devise evidence-based treatment strategies for difficult diagnoses.
• Detect adverse drug reactions, respond to emergencies and provide basic life support.
• Collaborate with consulting physician on patient plan of care.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• The employee will be responsible for clinical nursing specialty duties of considerable difficulty and perform related work as required.


• The employee in this class functions as a clinical nurse practitioner in a specialty area providing assessment. diagnosis, and nursing/medical care for patients and families.


• Under this classification, the employee will meet the requirements to write and sign prescriptions or issue non-controlled legend drugs.


• The selected employee will need to be knowledgeable in devising evidence-based treatment strategies to meet the needs of patients with difficult diagnoses.


• Detect and respond to adverse drug reactions, medical emergencies, perform basic life support or CPR, provide Psychosocial counseling, preventative health care, and care according to the patient's needs.


• Analyze findings from physical examination, laboratory reports, and other diagnostic testing.


• Audits patient charts for protocol, standards of care, and compliance with agency and outside accrediting/licensing organizations' guidelines.


• Collaborates with consulting physician about patient's plan of care.

Necessary Special Qualifications

• Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice Nurse certificate in the State of Tennessee and current national certification or eligible for national certification in the appropriate nursing specialty area.


• Licensure as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice Nurse certificate in the State of Tennessee and national certification in the appropriate nursing specialty area are required within 60 days after employment.


• Possession of a Certificate of Fitness from the Tennessee Board of Nursing is also required within 60 days after employment.
