Job summary

NaphCare is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Jacksonville, Florida, caring for individuals incarcerated at the Jacksonville Pre-Trial Detention Facility. You will work with correctional officers and medical staff to deliver comprehensive clinical care in a secure, managed environment.

As a Correctional NP, you will assess, diagnose and treat a range of acute and chronic conditions, prescribe medications, respond to emergencies, and maintain detailed medical records while adhering

Qualifications

Master's or Doctorate in nursing required.
Current Florida NP license and active DEA registration.
Collaborative agreement with on-site Physician.
BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred).
Board certification recognized by ABMS.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong communication.

Responsibilities

Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients.
Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
Administering medications and providing instructions to patients.
Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs and histories.
Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing needs, and coordinating services.
Responding to medical emergencies and ensuring timely transport.
Educating patients on preventative care and healthy lifestyle choices.
Maintain medical records and report relevant information.
Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off-site treatment.
Admitting and discharging patients from the facility.

Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in Jacksonville, Florida, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Jacksonville Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, respond to emergencies, etc. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well‑being of patients.
Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off‑site treatment
Admitting and discharging patients from the facility

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Requirements

Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in Florida
Current DEA registration
An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Able to work independently and in a team
Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
