Job summary

One GI is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide gastroenterology patient care in collaboration with supervising physicians. The role spans clinic and inpatient settings, with opportunities for performing procedures and participating in quality improvement.

The NP will triage patients, conduct routine and urgent visits, and coordinate care across the team while maintaining thorough documentation and patient education.

Qualifications

  • RN license and NP certification with prescriptive authority.
  • Board certified NP with prescriptive authority.
  • ACLS certification is required.
  • Minimum 3 years professional nursing experience in clinic or hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first point of contact medical triage for hospital and clinic patients.
  • Perform daily rounds on hospitalized patients with NP involvement.
  • Conduct routine and urgent follow-up visits; manage G-tube changes and hemorrhoid banding after training.
  • Order labs, medications, and diagnostic procedures; administer injections.
  • Communicate care plans to physicians and participate in QA activities.
  • Maintain patient records and provide patient education.

Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner’s primary responsibility will be to provide appropriate gastroenterology patient care in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating physicians. This will involve assessing and managing patients in the clinic as well as the inpatient setting according to established standards and practices.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first point of contact medical triage for patients in the hospital setting for:
    • New inpatient consults
    • Inpatient follow-up visits
    • Weekend call coverage (as negotiated)
  • Provide care to patients in the following settings:
    • Routine follow-up visits in the office
    • Urgent follow-up visits in the office
    • Urgent and provider requested consults and new patient visits
    • G-tube changes
    • Hemorrhoid banding (after training)
    • Large volume paracentesis (as permitted)
    • Perform daily rounds on hospitalized patients (inpatient NP’s and specialized patient populations (ex. Hep C)
  • Communicate patient care activities to the physician (visit notes/test results).
  • Participate in clinical continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Perform a physical exam and records findings.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Order appropriate medication, laboratory, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instruct patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provide patient education.
  • Maintain and review patient’s records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

  • Provide professional service to direct customers of One GI in all interactions.

Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
  • Registered Nursing license as well as degree level required by each state to obtain NP license.
  • Graduate of an accredited program and board certified with prescriptive authority.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must, knowledge of billing services is required, understands the various responsibilities physician/NP/Patient relationship.
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program with certification by a national Nurse Practitioner certification board.
  • Three (3) years professional nursing experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Understand/comprehend English as well as read/follow written English instructions. This role requires continuous activity levels in areas such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and reaching. It also requires dexterity in motion/flexibility. Ability to lift, push or pull 35+ or more. Must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clinic and hospital environment. There is potential to be exposed to blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Involves exposure to Glutaraldehyde/Rapicide (Refer to SDS manual as needed). Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
