  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or therapies.
  • Refer patients to Physician or resources as needed.
  • Maintain patient safety and dignity and provide excellent care.
  • Triages patients and obtains vital signs and assessments.
  • Administers medications per protocol.
  • Maintains lab/testing equipment and supports provider.

This position is available in the Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County Areas.

Major Responsibilities
  • Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition.
  • Discusses case with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
  • Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by Physician.
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Practices standard precautions and disease‑specific precautions by proper utilization of handwashing and personal protective equipment.
  • Practices strong nursing autonomy in patient care while coordinating care with an ED MD.
  • Triages patients while obtaining vital signs, a thorough history, and a nursing assessment.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Delegates within scope‑of‑practice to other clinical staff.
  • Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment and examination of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of dignity, comfort and safety needs of patient.
  • Always provides excellent patient care.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies provider of patient's condition as well as any changes to the patient’s condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Responds to life‑saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Must be BLS, ACLS and PALS certified and competent. Must be comfortable running “codes”.
  • Manages patient flow within the center by utilizing effective communication with all disciplines.
  • Is mindful of throughput.
  • Initiates a thorough patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the provider and/or policy including patient and family instruction.
  • Maintains, checks and utilizes a variety of laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Provides follow‑up for all patients to ensure good outcomes and help to implement further treatment as necessary.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
  • Prioritizes patients’ safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in the monitoring of inventory control and supplies.
  • Provides direct patient care interventions per his/her scope of practice and as ordered by the provider.
  • Is mindful of procedure and equipment costs and is a steward for the company.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Qualifications
  • State medical license
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care, with at least one year of SOLO experience.
  • Board eligibility or certification
  • Experience in procedures including suturing and splinting, reading diagnostic studies including x‑rays and EKGs
  • BLS/ACLS and PALS certification
  • Outstanding bedside manner with children and adults

Working Conditions

Center‑Based. Requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood‑borne pathogens. The ability to stand and sit for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
