UCI Health is seeking a nurse coordinator for the Digestive Health Institute. The role provides direct and indirect patient care, education to patients and families, and ensures complete care from pre-procedure through discharge and follow-up.

Collaboration with faculty in clinic and occasional scheduling support are key elements. The position requires a CA RN license, BSN, and 2+ years of clinical experience, with strong English communication and ability to travel within the health system.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Current CA RN license.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from AHA.
  • All external candidates must have a BSN.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Must be willing to travel between locations within the health system as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for Digestive Health Institute patients.
  • Educate patients and families about surgical care, procedures, medications, and care plans.
  • Ensure complete continuum of care from pre-procedure to discharge and follow-up.
  • Support faculty in clinic for patient care sessions; assist with scheduling visits/procedures.
  • Maintain safe use of equipment and uphold nursing practice quality.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

Incumbent functions independently providing direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the patients seen in Digestive Health Institute. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to surgical care, diagnostic procedures, medication/treatments and other complex aspects of the plan of care. Assures that the continuum of care process is complete to include: pre-procedure, surgical preparation and teaching, hospitalization, anticipated discharge needs, and follow up in the physician offices. Supports the faculty in clinic for every patient care session. Occasionally performs scheduling of office visits and procedures. The nurse coordinator is accountable for the quality of nursing practice. Provides nursing services as needed and ensures safe use of all equipment in the physician office practice. Assists with other activities as assigned to help grow the practice and the referrals to UCI.
