Job description

We are seeking an experienced registered nurse who is outgoing, dependable, comfortable making independent decisions, and capable of leading effectively in a fast-paced environment.
This is a Full-time salaried position working 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and also on-call rotation.

  • The Nurse Manager is responsible to complete all MDS's per schedule for their assigned lane(s) explaining or assisting with appeal process whenever necessary. Leads care conferences as scheduled, addressing any issues or concerns that may result. This position is also responsible to generate the initial resident plan of care based on MDS assessment data and to assist with keeping the plan of care updated.
  • This position is responsible for assuring that resident care is provided within established policies and procedures, Professional Standards of Practice, Federal and State Laws, Rules and Regulations, SMP Health Systems Directives and philosophy of Loving Care and Respect for individual residents' choice, privacy, dignity and independence. The Nurse Manager assists in screening, interviewing and hiring all unlicensed nursing staff. The incumbent is responsible for department orientation, continuing education and direct supervision of all unlicensed staff. The incumbent assesses staff needs and monitors staff recruitment and retention, making recommendations to the management team and the Director of Nursing. The nurse manager will make regular rounds for the purpose of consulting or problem solving regarding the delivery of medical or personal care activities.
  • The Nurse Manager coordinates the 24-hour nursing care on assigned lanes within established policies and procedures. This includes problem solving with other caregivers and assuring appropriate interventions from other specialties such as providers, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and/or psychiatric consultants. The incumbent is also to assign duties to CNA's consistent with education, preparation, experience and license. The Nurse Manager is to ensure adequate staffing for all lanes. This may include the Nurse Manager working a shift on the floor as a nurse or being called in on short notice. The incumbent will deal with issues regarding CNA scheduling and make appropriate adjustments in staff to ensure resident needs are met and CNA hours are attained and maintained per facility standards.
  • This position coordinates and oversees delivery of resident care, monitors personal cares and follows up on any issues related to CNAs. The Nurse Manager assists with establishing and assessing the accuracy and effectiveness of facility practices, documentation and compliance with State and Federal regulations through effective quality management. The Nurse Manager is a member of the facility's Quality Team and is expected to attend team meetings.
  • The Nurse Manager assists with the admission process for the purpose of assuring appropriate placement in meeting resident needs and/or assuring the availability of supplies and equipment to meet those needs. The Nurse Manager attends all Insurance meetings, draws all Medicare A labs as ordered and contacts providers for necessary supplies and equipment.
  • The Nurse Manage is responsible for guiding, supervising, and coaching RN's, LPN's, NTs, CMAs, CNAs, Bathing Assistants, Restorative Assistants, and Mealtime Assistants/CNAs. The Nurse Manager will provide performance evaluations, counseling, verbal warnings, and written corrective/disciplinary action for infractions or misconduct in a timely manner. The incumbent can evaluate and suspend an employee upon report or suspicion of resident abuse.
  • The Nurse Manager communicates with and manages staff effectively, holding monthly CNA meetings to inform and discuss problems/changes. The incumbent remains ca m in crises/difficult situations and possesses and utilizes decision-making abilities. The Nurse Manager will respond timely and appropriately to resident/staff concerns; channel information through proper chain of command; inform affected others when changes are made regarding resident cares/system flow; listens to and responds to questions/concerns in a clear and timely manner and informs Director of Nursing of concerns/changes on a daily basis or as needed.
  • The Nurse Manager is responsible for completing various assessments, records and forms and/or monitoring the accuracy and completeness of such forms. This includes the following resident's clinical records and forms; routine care sheets, care plans, daily resident charting as needed, requests for lab tests, physician orders, various resident flow sheets, medication supply order forms, admission and transfer forms, and medication and treatment administration records (MAR). This position assists with maintaining the established department budget. This includes planning for and assisting with determining upcoming needs relative to the annual budget process; assuring equipment is in good working order; assuring caregivers have supplies and equipment to safely and effectively carry out their assigned duties; assisting in determining costs related to educational needs of the unit.
  • Attends and actively participates in work, meetings, and in-services in order to be current, knowledgeable and able to contribute to the residents' highest level of functioning; serves on various committees and task forces within the facility, participates in improving organization performance studies as directed by Director of Nursing, Infection Preventionist, and Direct Care Specialist. Monitors the infection control status of residents and staff and reports as needed.
  • The Nurse Manager will attend and conduct all care conferences for those residents on his/her assigned lanes. The incumbent will inform and invite involved CNAs to meetings. After the care conference the Nurse Manager will follow up on any issues/problems that were discussed and update routine care sheets as needed.
  • Performs safety and infection control policies and procedures to ensure a safe, organized and clean environment for residents and staff. This includes utilizing the proper hand hygiene at all times. This also includes understanding and following procedures related to emergencies, resident safety, emergency preparedness, fire, severe weather, evacuation, universal precautions, infection control procedures, sanitation procedures, and safe operation of any equipment used. The Nurse Manager monitors the practices of other nursing staff on the unit to assure compliance with procedures and policies. Demonstrates proficiency in essential computer programs.
