Job summary

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN or Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Current licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Minimum of 4 years nursing experience, with at least 2 years in progressively responsible management roles.
  • Experience in a specialty nursing area (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the assigned department to ensure smooth, efficient 24/7 patient care and resource availability.
  • Collaborate with staff and other departments to facilitate high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure adequate departmental staffing through data review and maintenance of master schedules.
  • Act as a liaison to other hospital departments and outside entities; manage resource needs and equipment supplies.
  • Oversee staffing and scheduling, including master schedule control, ETO & LOA approval, and light duty scheduling.
  • Serve as a real-time resource, providing clinical expertise and problem-solving support to staff.
  • Maintain communication with staff, leadership, and patients to address needs.
  • Engage medical staff for input on department operations and key decisions.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and oral, and maintain professional relationships across the organization.
  • Model St. Charles Health System values in meetings, rounds, and daily interactions.
  • Coordinate quality initiatives and process improvements, aligning with system metrics and quality goals.
  • Track quality and financial indicators, including length of stay, with case manager support.
  • Facilitate department meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring operational targets are met.
  • Manage productivity oversight and review to achieve standards.
  • Develop and implement annual unit plans, including goals with the director and supervisor.
  • Control position staffing, adding or removing roles as needed for budgeting and human resources.
  • Hire, coach, and evaluate direct reports to build a high‑performance team.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Resources processes, safety requirements, and regulatory directives.
  • Oversee customer service delivery, promoting timely, efficient care.
  • Assist with quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, including EMS operations.
  • Create a healing environment that respects all aspects of patient and caregiver care.
  • Oversee staff documentation for compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Support leadership development of staff and the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Collaborate with teams to review processes and implement improvement opportunities using Value Improvement Practice concepts.
  • Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Conduct all activities with professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct, reporting violations and supporting investigations as required.

Education

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license; meets St. Charles Health System driving requirements.

  • Experience in a specialty nursing area (preferred).
