Job summary

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC seeks a Nurse Manager for the Pre- and Post-Op department. The role oversees clinical operations, staffing, and quality of care for pediatric patients in a 247-bed, Magnet-designated system.

Ideal candidates have pediatric Pre-Op or PACU experience and prior leadership. This is a full-time salaried position with a Monday–Friday schedule and a pay range reflecting a competitive nursing leadership role.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and RN licensure in the appropriate state.
  • MSN preferred or enrollment in MSN within 1 year of hire with MSN completion within 5 years.
  • Previous management experience in a pediatric or perioperative setting is preferred.
  • BLS certification and professional credentials within 1 year of eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical and operational functions of the Pre-/Post-Op unit to ensure safe, high-quality care.
  • Oversee staffing, orientation, credentialing, and professional development.
  • Promote shared governance and collaborative practice with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide direct nursing care, treatments, and medication administration as needed.
  • Participate in performance improvement and cost-effective unit operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Nursing Practice Acts and regulatory standards.

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region. At 247 beds, LCH is the largest children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high acuity patients as the flagship children’s hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties. We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a newly expanded 24 bed PICU and 20 bed Cardiac ICU, an 85‑bed Level IV NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor. Levine Children’s Hospital is also Charlotte’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. LCH has been named a Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 18 consecutive years and is nationally ranked in 7 pediatric specialties. Additionally, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital have earned Magnet re‑designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®.

LCH is seeking a Nurse Manager to lead its Pre- and Post-Op department. This leader will oversee clinical and operational functions to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective care by a skilled and knowledgeable team. The role also requires maintaining clinical and professional competencies appropriate to the ages, developmental stages, and specialized needs of the pediatric patients served. Ideal candidates will have pediatric Pre-Op or PACU experience, leadership experience, or both.

Essential Functions
  • Continually demonstrates and supports a Professional Practice model that allows nurses to work in collaboration with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Ensures that unit operations and employees are in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, and policies and procedures.
  • Functions as a team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit and the organization, upholding quality management, patient care, and departmental standards.
  • Assumes responsibility in the recruitment and retention of qualified staff and to ensure appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development of personnel through mutual goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • Delegates effectively by promoting shared governance, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes.
  • Performs nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administers medications as necessary.
  • Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient and family education.
  • Participates with performance improvement activities to improve quality of nursing care, promote patient outcomes and provide a cost effective environment for patient care.
  • Assists in development of policies, procedures and standards reflective of evidence based practice.
  • Promotes shared accountability for professional practice.
  • Allocates resources to meet the unit needs. Responsible for budgetary oversight, and along with staff involvement, accountable to the organization for maintaining a cost effective unit.
Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English fluently. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and / or unit/department conditions.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required. Current RN licensure in appropriate state. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Must have or complete MSN if undergraduate degree is not BSN. Enrollment in MSN program within 1 year of hire/transfer date and graduation of MSN program required within 5 years of hire. If undergraduate degree is BSN, a Master's Degree from a health-related program or MBA is acceptable. Previous management experience preferred. BLS required per policy guidelines. Appropriate professional certification (either clinical or leadership) is required within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification exam. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.
