Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Lead Registered Nurse / Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department. This role assesses, plans, directs, and evaluates patient care in the ER and serves as a resource for staff and Hospital Administrator, including orientation, staffing, and audits to drive high-quality care and safety.

You will oversee nursing and allied services, participate in on-call rotations, and lead staffing strategies across multiple locations to ensure continuous coverage.

Qualifications

• 5+ years total nursing experience
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
• 2+ years Emergency Department, Critical Care or PCU experience in an acute care hospital
• 2+ years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting
• Knowledge of JCAHO or DNV standards
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association or American Red cross
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication

Responsibilities

• Oversee multiple hospital functions including Nursing, Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, Respiratory, Front Office and Dietary
• Participate in Administrator on Call rotation to provide leadership outside regular hours
• Develop and manage work schedules for RNs, LVNs, and PCAs
• Provide shift coverage to maintain staffing and patient care continuity
• Support senior leadership during facility inspections by licensing and accrediting agencies
• Address educational needs of the market and oversee new service lines
• Assist with orientation, preceptorship, and ongoing staff education
• Contribute to quality management and process improvement initiatives
• Ensure continuous staffing coverage across the region and facilities
• Travel to facility locations as required

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to provide primary functions of a nurse in assessing, planning, directing and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Room. The Lead Registered Nurse / Nurse Manager, also serves as a resource for staff and the Hospital Administrator providing orientation and training, staffing, audits, and other duties which contribute to the continuous improvement and to high level quality and safety in patient care.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists with all functional aspects of overseeing the hospital including Nursing, Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, Respiratory, Front Office and Dietary.

• Participate in the Administrator on Call (AOC) rotation to provide leadership support and respond to operational needs outside of regular business hours.

• Develop and manage work schedules for all RNs, LVNs, and PCAs to ensure adequate staffing levels and coverage.

• Provide shift coverage as needed to maintain adequate staffing levels and ensure continuity of patient care.

• Supports senior leadership during facility inspections by licensing and accrediting agencies.

• Evaluates and addresses the educational needs of the market.

• Assists with planning and implementation of new service lines.

• Assists with oversight of Inpatient Lead / Preceptor in the facility.

• Assists with marketing and external relationships to drive facility volume.

• Assists in the implementation of the quality management system.

• Assists with process improvement activities and corrective action plans in the facility.

• Responsible for interim coverage of vacant or absent leadership positions within the region

• Assists with ensuring all functional areas are fully staffed with continuous coverage.

• Assists with new clinical orientation, including preceptor management.

• Assists with new and continued education and following up with staff.

Other Job Functions

• Monitors facility quality indicators and supports development of resolution plans by working closely with regional and corporate functions such as safety and infection control.
• Complies with all established policies, procedures and protocols.
• Attends staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required.
• Supports Hospital Administrator with fiscal accountability through scheduling and ordering supplies.
• Travels to all facility locations as required.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Associate degree, required; BSN, preferred

• 5+ years total nursing experience, required

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse without sanctions, required

• 2+ years Emergency Department, Critical Care or PCU experience in an acute care hospital, required

• 2+ years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, preferred

• Knowledge of JCAHO or DNV standards, required

• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association or American Red cross, required

• Experience with high acuity, ICU Medical/Surgical patients, preferred

• Completion of FEMA 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 60 days of hire
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
