Qualifications

• RN is required.
• Preferred: experience as a staff nurse, in chemical dependency, eating disorders and/or behavioral health.
• Must maintain a current Driver's License and be in good standing.
• Knowledge of industry standards, accreditation and regulatory requirements.
• Familiar with behavior change, recovery models, and treatment methods.
• Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects, and potential toxicity.

Responsibilities

• Oversees nursing operations in line with the organization's mission and goals.
• Monitors facility census and staffing to support safe, patient-centered care.
• Provides direct supervision to LVN/LPN staff and fosters teamwork and growth.
• Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate orders and care plans.
• Provides on-call support and covers shifts to maintain continuity of nursing care.
• Performs MAR audits and reviews medication errors to drive staff education and safety.
• Trains and mentors nursing staff, delivering competency-based learning resources.
• Ensures compliance with policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Provides transportation support for residential treatment as needed.
• Monitors CIWA/COW scores and detox-related knowledge to assist in patient care.

Position Summary

Working closely with the Nurse Administrator, the Nurse Manager oversees nursing activities and medical coordination to ensure efficient service delivery, strong staff relationships, and consistent, patient-centered care throughout the treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

• Oversees nursing operations in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, core values, and strategic goals.
• Monitors facility census and ensures appropriate nursing staffing to support safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
• Provides direct supervision, leadership, and support to LVN/LPN staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and growth.
• Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding orders, care plans, medications, and patient needs to ensure coordinated care delivery.
• Provides on-call support, responds to emergencies 24/7, and covers shifts as needed to maintain continuity of nursing care.

Medication Administration & Management

• Performs Medication Administration Record (MAR) audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to organizational standards.
• Reviews medication errors to identify opportunities for staff education, process improvement, and risk reduction.
• Audits medication rooms to ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.
• Participates in the utilization review process and communicates with nursing staff regarding patient authorizations and medication-related care coordination.

Collaboration & Patient Education

• Consults and collaborates with Nursing Administrators, physicians, therapists, case managers, leadership, and other departments to support integrated patient care and operational excellence.
• Develops educational materials and training resources for nursing staff, including videos and competency-based learning tools.
• Trains, mentors, and provides feedback to nursing staff regarding best practices, performance, and clinical competencies.
• Participates in leadership meetings, committee initiatives, performance improvement projects, risk reduction strategies, and staff retention efforts to support organizational growth and excellence.
• Onboards new nursing staff, validates competencies, and ensures ongoing education and professional development.

Documentation & Compliance

• Adheres to all DBH policies and procedures and maintains knowledge of applicable state regulations and CARF/TJC standards.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Code of Ethics and integrates ethical decision-making into daily practice.
• Performs chart audits to ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
• Monitors HR compliance, follows up on missing employee documentation and incident reports, and maintains internal employee files in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Participates in follow-up and completion of assigned committee responsibilities and organizational initiatives.

Residential Treatment Only

Provides transportation services including patient transportation/supervision, medical appointments, etc. (must be pre-qualified to drive a company vehicle)

Substance & Mental Health Use Disorder Division

• Monitoring of CIWA/COW scores for patients on detoxification protocols.
• Knowledge of detoxification medication, withdrawal symptoms, and medical complications that can occur in detox.
• Provide assistance to Utilization Review in communicating pertinent nursing information

Knowledge, Education, Experience

• RN required
• Preferred: Experience as a staff nurse, preferably in the field of chemical dependency, eating disorders and/or behavioral health.
• Must maintain and possess a current Driver's License and be in good standing
• Knowledge of industry standards: organization, theory, principles, and research processes, accreditation and regulatory standards, ability to assess clinical care requirements based on nursing principles, scope of practice.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of substance use disorders and addiction, eating disorders and behavioral health.
• Familiar with behavior change, recovery models, and treatment methods
• Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects, and potential toxicity.
