Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Nursing Informatics Specialist who integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage data and support clinical decision making across Geisinger facilities.

You will coordinate data collection, vet workflows with nursing leadership, and drive improvements in workflows and patient care through EMR implementations and informatics collaboration with IT and clinical teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field is required.
  • Minimum 4 years of Information Technology experience and 5 years of clinical experience required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) – RN license required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate collection, recording, and analysis of nursing care data.
  • Vet workflows with leadership and nursing committees to ensure compliance.
  • Lead HIT projects independently, defining scope and methods.

Job Summary

This is a specialty position that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in clinical practice to support all patient care facilities within the Geisinger enterprise. It facilitates data integration, information, and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision‑making across all roles and settings. This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processing, and information technology. The role focuses on the design, structure, and presentation of information and how these issues impact clinician decision‑making. It functions as the primary IT clinical end‑user contact for the Department.

Job Duties
  • Coordinates the collection/recording and analysis of data relevant to the nursing care of patients.
  • Vets the proposed workflows with appropriate leadership and nursing committees.
  • Assures that analysis and workflows address regulatory requirements.
  • Implements clinical tools with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure efficient workflows that allow staff to make better care easier for our patients.
  • Participates as a content expert for the framework that surrounds the nursing processes for assessment, diagnosis, patient and family education, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluations in primary and secondary applications.
  • Articulates the informatics needs to IT staff and articulates the system limitations to clinical staff.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members, end users, outside vendors, supervision and leadership.
  • Reinforces with end users the importance of following Geisinger policies related to privacy, compliance and safety.
  • Assists with preparing training materials and training of end users and super users.
  • Mentors nursing staff through implementation and updates of the electronic medical record.
  • Participates in vendor review and selection process.
  • Participates in hardware/equipment and integration review for projects and new hospital/clinic implementations.
  • Able to lead small scale HIT projects independently including defining scope (in conjunction with peers and leadership), methods, data collection, coordination of meetings, and analysis.
  • Identifies areas to develop and implement improvement plans to increase efficiencies and drive high quality care delivery across the continuum of care.
  • Recommends system enhancements to support nursing and other clinical department end users.
  • Coaches and mentors peers or other staff as part of a career development plan.
