Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis invites nursing students to apply for the Mercy Nursing Externship, a paid winter program designed to accelerate growth and confidence at the bedside. You will rotate through various nursing units, learning from experienced Mercy nurses who mentor you to develop essential clinical skills.

Participants gain hands-on practice in a supportive acute care environment, with opportunities to interact with clinical leaders and explore specialty areas that align with career goals.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least 2 nursing semesters including one clinical rotation.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program.
• Able to commit to 24 hours per week during the externship period.

Responsibilities

Are you ready to take what you've learned in the classroom and bring it to life at the bedside? The Mercy Nursing Externship is an exclusive, paid winter experience designed for nursing students who are eager to accelerate their growth, build confidence, and gain meaningful hands‑on experience alongside some of the most compassionate and skilled nurses in healthcare.

As a Mercy Nursing Extern, you'll work approximately 24 hours per week (two 12‑hour shifts) and rotate through a variety of nursing units, gaining exposure to diverse patient populations and specialty areas while learning directly from experienced Mercy nurses who are invested in your success.

Externship Requirement:

Applicants must have completed at least 2 semesters of nursing school, including a minimum of one round of clinicals, by the start of the externship.
