Medical City North Hills, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN in Med Surg to gain hands-on nursing experience while supporting the nursing team. You will contribute to safe, compassionate patient care as you progress through your nursing program.

The role emphasizes learning opportunities, collaboration with your preceptor, and development toward more advanced responsibilities within the RN role. This PRN position offers flexible scheduling to fit your program.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support required within 30 days of start date.
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
• Preferred candidate has completed foundation, fundamental or Med Surg I clinical.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by assisting with ADLs, monitoring vital signs, aiding mobility, and maintaining hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as competency grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate updates to the nursing team for coordinated patient care.
• Educate patients and families about care plans and health recovery guidance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas, follow infection prevention practices, manage equipment, and keep environment organized.
• Engage in growth opportunities and collaborate with your supervisor to build a personal development plan.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:
