Job summary

Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC seeks a Nurse Extern (PRN) to support the nursing team with essential patient care and learning opportunities. The role focuses on gaining hands-on experience as you explore the Registered Nurse responsibilities while delivering compassionate, safe care.

You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound care, and basic nursing tasks under supervision, while advancing your clinical skills through structured preceptorship and ongoing education opportunities provided

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including ADLs, vital signs, mobility support, and comfort hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, and specimen collection as you gain experience
• Document care accurately and communicate updates with the nursing team
• Assist patients and families in understanding care plans and recovery steps
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices and organizing equipment
• Engage in growth opportunities and collaborate with preceptor to build a personal career development plan

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you'll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You'll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan
