Title

Part‑time Nurse Extern – Encompass Health

Summary

Current RN student with Nursing Fundamentals completed and active Illinois CNA certification. Work 24 hours per week, every other weekend. Role supports patient recovery through individualized, compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily activities as delegated by the rehabilitation team.
• Communicate patient concerns and changes in condition to rehabilitation nurses or therapists.
• Document appropriate patient information in medical records.
• Obtain vital signs and record in the electronic medical record.
• Perform special procedures including collection of urine, stool, and sputum.
• Review treatments/ADLs/hygiene with patients and families.
• Assist patients with feeding and attend Therapeutic Dining Group as indicated.
• Assist patients with body mechanics and maintain a clean, healthy environment for the patient.
• Assist with equipment care.

Qualifications

• BLS (CPR) required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Part‑time or full‑time active student status.
• Successful completion of the first term of nursing courses of a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program.
• Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program.
• Initial term including didactic/skills lab must include fundamentals of nursing or course equivalent.
• Return of one or two instructor evaluations indicating satisfactory performance of fundamental nursing skills.
• Successful completion of preceptor tool and core competency at 90 days and annually.
• Must present proof of continued enrollment and passing grade in nursing classes each semester until graduation and remain in good academic standing.
• One year experience in inpatient clinical setting preferred.
