Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital, Inc. invites nursing students in their final year to apply for the Nurse Extern program. The Winter 2026 and Spring 2027 sessions run across Yale, South, Vinita, and Laureate campuses and include paid shadowing with shift differentials.

Externs will shadow a registered nurse, participate in assessments and basic care, and rotate through multiple units. Orientation and interviews are coordinated by the Yale Campus Nursing Services Orientation in Tulsa, OK.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in or entering final year of an accredited RN program.
• Must be available to work a full-time schedule (3 shifts/week) for 4 weeks during the winter program or a part-time schedule (1 shift/week) for 14 weeks during the spring program.
• Paid externship with shift differentials for evenings/nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning nursing care for an assigned group of patients.
• Gives direct patient care based on RN assessment and plan of care.
• Performs technical treatments and procedures identified in nurse extern skills checklist.
• Assists the licensed nurse in recording pertinent patient data in medical records for the health team and legal documentation.
• Participates in health team conferences to discuss patient needs and outcomes.
• Participates in educational opportunities to increase knowledge base for a specific patient population.

Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data.Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Assists in planning nursing care for an assigned group of patients. 2. Gives direct patient care to patient/patients based on registered nurse's assessment of patient needs and plan of care. 3.
