Job summary

Piedmont Augusta Hospital is offering a Nurse Extern program commencing December 14, 2026. You will gain clinical experience and time management skills by working alongside a Registered Nurse and learn the role of a Patient Care Tech.

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in an accredited nursing program with first Med/Surg rotation completed.
• No prior work experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) required.
• CNAs or PCT certifications preferred.
• Phlebotomy or ECG certifications preferred may be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision across the lifecycle.
• Utilize treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to a pre-licensure nurse.
• Follow hospital policy and protocols in clinical care.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Extern, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care to patients from birth through the lifecycle. This care includes utilizing treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to the pre-licensure nurse in the clinical setting per hospital policy.

Education

• A student currently enrolled in and progressing through an accredited nursing program and successfully completed the first Med/Surg rotation

Work Experience

Licenses and Certifications

• BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
• Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program Preferred or
• Certification in phlebotomy Preferred or
• Certification in ECG Preferred
