Job summary

UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a Nurse Educator to lead a brand-new military civilian program. You will educate military medics and nurses and coordinate rotations across high‑acuity units, partnering with UNC Medical Center leaders to create specialty learning experiences.

Hybrid work is available; in‑person at the Hedrick Office Building and UNC Medical Center as needed. Requires a BSN and NC RN licensure with tertiary care/education experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state‑accredited school.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• Three years tertiary care with two years in the assigned specialty.
• Experience in education, preceptorship and clinical mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support clinical rotations in ED, ICU and other critical care areas.
• Educate military medics and nurses as a program lead.
• Collaborate with UNC Medical Center leaders to design specialty learning experiences.
• Develop educational processes, materials and program workflows.
• Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to staff and students.

What You'll Do:

• Educator for military medics and nurses
• Coordinate and support clinical rotations across high-acuity areas, including the ED, BICU, STICU, and other critical care units
• Partner with clinical leaders, educators, and preceptors across UNC Medical Center to create meaningful, specialty-specific learning experiences
• Help build and shape the program from the ground up, including developing clinical experiences, educational processes, and program workflows

Preferred Experience:

• Ideal candidate will have experience in Emergency Nursing and/or Critical Care, along with a strong background in education, preceptorship, and clinical mentorship
• Military healthcare experience is highly valued and would be a significant asset in this role

More Information:

• Will be based in the Hedrick Office Building in Chapel Hill, NC, but you will spend a significant time at UNC Medical Center
• Hybrid flexibility is available, with remote work when clinical and program responsibilities permit

Summary

Coordinates staff development and educational needs of patient care nursing staff, patients, and families. This is an advanced level position in education, which is performed under minimal supervision. Assignments may be characterized as those requiring collaboration to address staff educational needs within a specialty practice area and/or service. Serves in a lead capacity over others as it relates to special projects or subject matter expertise. Work maybe performed collaboratively for multiple disciplines across the continuum of care or for a specific patient population or service area.

Responsibilities:

1. 1. Acts as resource and role model in use of evidence based practice. Leads unit/service based clinical practice groups
2. 2. Assists in orientation and placement of nursing students in clinical units. Serves as resource to faculty. Mentors graduate students
3. 3. Assists nursing staff in design and implementation of clinical nursing research/performance improvement projects.
4. 4. Assists nursing units with preceptor responsibilities to ensure that all new staff are oriented and meeting competency expectations
5. 5. Conducts learning needs assessments to plan staff educational programs
6. 6. Coordinates orientation, staff development and continuing education for nursing staff
7. 7. Develops evidence-based standards of care, comprehensive nursing plans, clinical pathways for patients and families and facilitates implementation of same.
8. 8. Develops, implements, and evaluates educational materials, self instructional programs, teaching protocols, and e-learning programs for nursing staff.
9. 9. In conjunction with other subject matter experts, develops and evaluates patient family education materials.
10. 10. Serves as a clinical resource and role model, provides clinical supervision to staff in developing clinical knowledge, skills and abilities

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
* For Home Health/Hospice: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
* For Home Health/Hospice: Valid NC Driver's License
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Three (3) years of experience in tertiary care with two (2) years clinical experience in the assigned specialty.
