Job description

This position is located at the Clinical Research Core office under the National Institute on Aging's Intramural Research Program. The Clinical Research Core office is the research facility in Baltimore, Maryland that supports the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the NIA. The NIA IRP support broad-based research focused on the biology of aging and age-associated diseases and disabilities.

Nurse (Research Specialist)

In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must have the following:

Basic Requirement:

Graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

AND

A current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional Qualification Requirements:

You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:

• Performing clinical procedures, such as cytapheresis, dialysis, plasmapheresis, blood exchanges;
• assessing research participants/patients for adverse reactions during the procedures;
• recording clinical research data in accordance with study protocols and in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements and/or
• educating research participants on clinical study procedures.

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:

• Performing clinical/research apheresis procedures such as cytapheresis or plasmapheresis;
• advising on apheresis procedures for clinical trial implementation;
• coordinating clinical research activities while ensuring regulatory compliance, participant/patient safety, and data integrity across clinical studies; and/or
• training clinical staff on clinical research practices and protocols
