Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Nuclear Worker Technician at the Naval Reactors Facility site in Idaho. You will perform hands-on operation and maintenance of product-line equipment under a work controller, including material handling, testing, cask handling, and installation tasks.

The role requires rotating shift work and may require a mix of education or related experience, with a strong emphasis on safety and operational reliability for the nation’s naval nuclear fleet.

Qualifications

  • Two years post-high school education (48 credit hours) or Journeyman Papers.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years' related experience.
  • Two years' Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Nuclear material handling operations, transfers, dismantling, examining and testing.
  • Operation and maintenance of product-line equipment for receipt, discharge, loading, examination, testing, dismantling, or refurbishing nuclear components.
  • Cask handling operations and equipment installation/removal to support product-line activities.

Job Description
Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Nuclear Worker Technician position at their Naval Reactors Facility site in Idaho. Nuclear Worker Technicians perform the hands-on operation and maintenance of product-line equipment under the direction of a work controller. Daily activities may include:
  • Nuclear material handling operations, transfers, dismantling, examining, and testing.
  • Operation and maintenance of product line equipment required for receipt, discharge, loading, examination, testing, dismantling, or refurbishing of nuclear components and associated hardware.
  • Cask handling operations, cask preparation for nuclear material removal, transfer, discharge, loading, preparation, and shipment.
  • Installation and removal of equipment, components, and waste to support nuclear product line activities.
Nuclear Worker Technicians maintain multiple qualifications that require extensive training and examination. This position requires rotating shift work.
Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill
  • A minimum of two years post-high school education, equating to 48 credit hours of college-level studies; or Journeyman Papers
OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years' experience in a related field
OR
  • Two years' Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Professional experience in industrial equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Education and/or professional experience in a mechanical or nuclear field.
  • Demonstrated leadership, professional growth, and professional skill development.

Pay Range
$32.78 hourly

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
