Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM seeks a Nuclear Weapons Scientist (Scientist 2/3) to advance national security research. The role blends theoretical, numerical and experimental methods to design and assess weapons performance, with mentoring and collaboration across disciplines.

The Scientist 2 level focuses on developing capabilities to solve multi‑physics problems, while Scientist 3 leads projects and mentors junior staff, with opportunities to contribute to model development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 4 years of related experience for Scientist 2.
• Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of related experience for Scientist 3.
• PhD preferred with postdoctoral work in Physics, Computational Science, Engineering, or related fields.
• Active DOE Q Clearance is desired.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply multi‑physics or radiation transport codes to national security problems.
• Contribute to experimental design, model development, data evaluation or code validation.
• Mentor and collaborate with junior staff, depending on level.
