Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Connecticut is offering a Nuclear Quality Control Engineering Summer Internship. Interns will work with the Nuclear Quality Control Engineering, Audit & Assessment, and Data Analytics teams to learn how quality controls support submarine programs.

You will review drawings, assist with documentation, participate in problem resolution, and gain hands-on experience across design, construction, and certification activities on current naval projects.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university.
• US citizenship required.
• Must pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
• Available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in Engineering or Analytical Sciences.

As an Intern, you'll be exposed to various engineering activities with the support of our senior staff. This program grants our trainees the opportunity to develop valuable skills and dive into cutting-edge projects such as leading the Columbia Class design and enhancing Virginia Class submarines. Every intern will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge in order to excel in the engineering domain.

This program requires an 8-week commitment during the summer 2027 season.

Participation in this program requires medical screening, passing a drug test, and potential DOD Investigation.

Nuclear Quality Organization – Summer Internship

Job Description:

The Nuclear Quality Control Directorate is responsible for

• Ensuring all nuclear work meets quality requirements and standards
• Certifying Nuclear SUBSAFE material
• Identifying significant problems
• Conducting Nuclear Inspections
• Providing trend analysis services to Operation Organizations
• Maintaining qualified and proficient inspectors
• Reviewing Nuclear technical work documents
• Maintaining Nuclear certification documentation
• Developing and maintaining Nuclear Quality instructions to support Reactor Plant certification

The Nuclear Quality Control Engineering Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:

Support D421 Nuclear Quality Control Engineering organization in the review of drawings/disclosures, specifications, and technical work documents to ensure identification of required quality and inspection/documentation requirements. Interns will also be involved with both design and construction issues including design integration of quality requirements and construction problem resolution supporting new construction ships and maintenance and repair of commissioned ships.

Support D421 Problem Resolution Engineering organization in formal investigations of unplanned events vialearning sessions with Engineering and Operation organizations utilizing fundamentals of problem resolution. Interns will also support in problem resolution process improvements related to procedure and internal problem resolution databases

The Nuclear Quality Control Audit & Assessment Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:

Support D424 Audit & Assessment organization in performing surveillances, audits, and assessments to provide quality oversight. Interns will also support other quality functions including but not limited to external audits, corrective action boards, and self-assessments.

Support D424 Quality Data Analytics organization in quality data and trend analysis to support quality reporting. Interns may also support Discipline Steering Teams, model development, and system improvements.

Qualifications

To be qualified for this position:

• At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
• Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.
• Selected candidateswill be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in:
  • Engineering - Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Marine, Mechanical, or Nuclear, or Biomedical.
  • Analytical Sciences - Data Analytics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
