Qualifications

  • Active Florida Nuclear Medicine Technologist license required.
  • Certification by ARRT (Nuclear Medicine) and/or NMTCB preferred.

This position coordinates and performs a variety of technical tasks, diagnostic tests and determinations involving the use of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation to assist the doctor in the diagnosis of patients' health problems. The employee provides direct and indirect patient care to ensure successful completion of their imaging procedures

Essential Functions
  • Prepares the exam room for nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform a variety of nuclear medicine procedures including, inpatient, outpatient and emergency studies.
  • Ensures that diagnostic quality scans are accurately produced according to established protocols. Adjusts techniques for optimum imaging and the lowest dose achievable.
  • Ensures radiation safety techniques are followed to conform to ALARA.
  • Handles isotopes in a safe environment.
  • Calibrates and draws up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients.
  • Calculates and administers nuclear medicine doses in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensures the physicist calibrates instruments and reviews calibration data to detect trends indicating possible instrument malfunction.
  • Calculates data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay. Evaluates recorded images for technical quality.
  • Ensures all documentation is accurate prior to the start of a procedure. Physician's orders are reviewed to confirm exam to be performed matches physician prescription.
  • Verifies patient ID per hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Maneuvers patients into the correct position for nuclear medicine procedures. Utilizes and adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to ensure patient safety, proper positioning and to minimize patient discomfort.
  • Monitors nuclear medicine area with portable Geiger Counter for possible contamination.
  • Maintains records of order, receipt and disposal of all radioactive material within the Radiology Department.
  • Follows and adheres to all aspects of the hospital's Code of Conduct.
  • Performs various clerical duties within the Radiology Department.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies. Informs supervisor of needed supplies as necessary in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Transports patients to and from their units to the nuclear medicine room.
  • Uses equipment safely and as directed by policies and instruction. Maintains equipment through proper care and maintenance. Reports any identified equipment breakdown or malfunction to the Manager of Radiology.
  • Ensures all patient data and required technical data is entered correctly into the computer system.
  • Inputs patient charges accurately.
  • Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Education

  • Two (2) years experience required.
Certification
  • Certified as Nuclear Medicine Technologist by American Registry of Radiology Technologists. and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
Licensure
  • State of Florida as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist license required.
