Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and treatment. You will work with gamma cameras and PET scanners, supporting physicians and radiologists to ensure safe, accurate imaging and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Florida License as a General Radiographer (RAD).
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or certified with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nuclear medicine procedures according to the manual and written orders.
  • Utilize imaging equipment safely and according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Perform quality control on the gamma camera and other equipment as required.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Review physician orders to determine isotopes and obtain necessary isotopes from the pharmacy.
  • Explain procedures to patients and obtain written consent for invasive procedures.
  • Operate digital equipment for imaging storage and transmission.
  • Provide backup assistance to colleagues as needed.

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will prepare and administer radioactive drugs (radiopharmaceuticals) to patients for imaging or treatment, primarily for diagnosing cancers and cardiovascular diseases. This is done through operating specialized imaging devices like gamma cameras and PET scanners. You will work with department associates and medical staff to improve care and workflow by providing support, education and assistance to customers and fellow colleagues. This role is essential to the Imaging Department, allowing the team to effectively support patients and provide essential treatments.

A caregiver in this position works varying 8 or 10-hour shifts, Monday-Friday and rotating weekends and holidays. The schedule is provided 4-6 weeks in advance.

The caregiver may work at Martin and St. Lucie County sites.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform nuclear medicine procedures according to the manual and written order.
  • Utilize equipment safely and according to manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Perform quality control on the gamma camera and other equipment as required.
  • Ensure that all equipment is appropriately maintained, calibrated and working properly.
  • Report equipment problems to supervisor or service personnel as required and discontinue use of equipment until repairs have been completed when the equipment problem causes image quality degradation or safety issues.
  • Review the physician's orders to determine the proper isotope required for each type of test ordered and order the necessary isotope from the pharmacy.
  • Explain the procedures to the patient, parent or legal guardian and obtain written consent for all invasive procedures prior to the exam.
  • Complete site identification procedure prior to the start of invasive procedure.
  • Utilize appropriate skills in accurately and descriptively documenting patient's pertinent clinical information, medical history, allergies and other pertinent information.
  • Consult with radiologist or referring physician regarding contraindications to ordered exam.
  • Respond to emergency situations, i.e., contrast reactions and medical emergencies according to departmental, clinic and hospital policy.
  • Advise the nurse in charge of the patient of any unusual occurrence which happened to the patient while in the Imaging Department.
  • Operate the required digital equipment effectively in the production, storage and transmission of images.
  • Report any equipment problems, safety issues or patient complaints to supervisor.
  • Provide backup assistance to other associates in the department upon completion of duties or as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Two years of experience as an Imaging Technologist in an acute care imaging setting

  • Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities; self-starting and self-motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests and to work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
