Summary

12k Sign on Bonus for Qualified Candidates! This position performs a variety of technical procedures that requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist should have knowledge about Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation including gamma cameras (planar and SPECT), PET, radiation detectors/counters, dose calibrators, and quality control of all equipment. They should also be knowledgeable in radiation safety practices, patient and occupational exposures, dosimetry, ALARA techniques, NRC guidelines for handling, administering, and transporting radioactive materials, and radiopharmacy including safe administration, preparation, measurement, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Responsibilities
  • Injects and administers radiopharmaceuticals, assays activities, calculates volumes and activity concentrations for radiopharmaceuticals, and enters records in a dose tracking system.
  • Performs laboratory procedures including measurement, manipulation, and preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and unit doses.
  • Understands nuclear medicine protocols and procedures; positions patients on equipment per protocol; monitors patients during procedures.
  • Performs IV access, selecting appropriate site and using aseptic technique.
  • Operates all nuclear medicine instrumentation devices; ensures quality control of all equipment.
  • Understands and applies radiation safety regulations and procedures diligently.
  • Wears appropriate radiation monitoring devices during exposures per safety standards.
  • Prepares images and reports for diagnosis, including calculations, measurements, graphical extrapolations, and computer readouts.
  • Adjusts technical factors to provide statistically appropriate images, using independent judgment, patient limitations, and clinical knowledge.
  • Performs clerical functions including scheduling, taking patient history, completing required forms and statistics, initiating requisitions, and modifying charges.
  • Documents, updates, verifies, and completes all patient demographics and clinical information within RIS and PACS.
  • Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions appropriately.
  • Attends in-service educational programs and departmental meetings.
  • May be required to work on-call shift hours, various shift and weekend hours as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows and may participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
Certifications and Licensures
  • Basic Life Support (Required)
  • CNMT: Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Required)
  • Fingerprinting (Required)
Education
  • Associate’s Degree (required)
  • Degree in a healthcare‑related field (equivalent experience) – knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Technology normally acquired through an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and 1700 hr clinical instruction; two years of clinical experience as a Nu (fragmented)
Experience, Training and Skills
  • Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Didactic and Clinical Competency program (required)
  • Continuing education required by accrediting agency (required)
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with groups and individuals at all levels
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief and death
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or substitutes
  • Mobility required throughout facility, with or without assistance
  • Vision and hearing necessary, with or without assisted devices
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking; may require stooping, kneeling, or crouching
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious material; must follow bloodborne pathogen and TB testing policies
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, stay awake
  • Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, feeling; repetitive movements may occur frequently
  • Physical demand level: Medium; capable of lifting or carrying 21–50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.
