Job description

Oregon Urology Institute is one of the largest, most advanced urological centers in the Northwest. Oregon Urology Institute provides patients with some of the region's finest medical experts covering every major urological specialty using proven and leading-edge technologies such as robotic surgery, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Overview

General Summary: Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance. May require a bachelor’s degree in a related area.

Duties and Responsibilities

• The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is expected to practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the RSO and/or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to the following:
• Complete patient education regarding the exam
• Promote comfort for the patient
• Perform PET/CT exams as ordered by authorized user
• Produce high quality images for the radiologist to evaluate
• Complete appropriate documentation
• Perform quality control functions related to PET/CT
• Assist in compilation and maintenance of statistical data
• Follow infection control and safety guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with PET/CT. Requires a certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the nuclear medicine technology certification board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice.
• Explain medical procedures to patients and answer any questions they may have
• Follow safety procedures to protect the patients and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure
• Prepare and administer radioactive drugs to patients.
• Monitor and watch for any unusual reactions patients may have to drugs
• Operate imaging equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Nuclear Medicine Technologist position requires a minimum of an associate degree in nuclear medicine, prefer individuals with a bachelor's degree.
• Some candidates may become qualified for the position by combining a 12 month certification program in nuclear medicine technology with an associate or bachelor\u2019s degree program in a health field such as nursing or radiologic technology.

Licensure, Certification, Registration Requirements

Required: Requires a certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the nuclear medicine technology certification board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice.
