Job summary

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Kansas is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging using radionuclides, prepare radiopharmaceuticals, and ensure patient safety and comfort. The role collaborates with radiologists and interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment and supports quality patient care.

This full-time position offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus, day shifts, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • BLS Certification required.
  • RT(N)(ARRT) certification required.
  • CNMT certification required.
  • Kansas LRT certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders and quality standards.
  • Prepare, calculate, handle, and administer radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of an authorized user.
  • Safely position patients to obtain high-quality diagnostic images while promoting comfort and safety.
  • Verify patient identity and examination accuracy before beginning each procedure.
  • Explain imaging procedures and provide age-appropriate patient education to promote understanding and cooperation.
  • Maintain compliance with Radiation Safety principles, including ALARA, to minimize exposure.
  • Maintain room readiness and ensure exam rooms are clean and stocked for patient care.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare teams to coordinate quality patient care.

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing radionuclides to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating disease. This role independently prepares, calculates, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and approved interventional medications under the direction of an authorized user while performing high-quality Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist ensures patient safety, maintains compliance with radiation safety standards, performs quality control procedures, and delivers exceptional patient care while adhering to AdventHealth policies and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Work Hours/Shifts

Full-Time, 4 x 9-hour shifts(with hours from callbacks the hours end up close to 40 hours/week)

Variable start times 0630-0730

On call: Overnight and weekend requirements

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and quality standards.

  • Prepare, calculate, handle, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and approved interventional medications under the direction of an authorized user.

  • Safely position, move, and assist patients to obtain high-quality diagnostic images while promoting patient comfort and safety.

  • Verify patient identity and examination accuracy using approved patient identification guidelines before beginning each procedure.

  • Review physician orders to ensure clinical appropriateness and accurate examination selection.

  • Explain imaging procedures, answer patient questions, and provide age-appropriate patient education to promote understanding and cooperation.

  • Evaluate image quality to ensure optimal diagnostic information prior to releasing images for interpretation.

  • Perform camera acquisition, image processing, and quality control procedures while maintaining proficiency with Nuclear Medicine imaging technology.

  • Maintain compliance with Radiation Safety principles, including ALARA standards, to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Perform and document all required equipment quality control procedures according to departmental and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain room readiness by ensuring exam rooms remain clean, organized, stocked, and prepared for patient care.

  • Initiate and document work orders for malfunctioning equipment and communicate equipment concerns to appropriate personnel.

  • Accurately document radionuclide administration, patient information, quality control data, and examination charges within the Nuclear Medicine Information System and other electronic applications.

  • Confirm proper patient and examination assignment prior to image transmission and resolve discrepancies as necessary.

  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to coordinate quality patient care.

  • Support the education and development of coworkers and students by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.

  • Perform clerical duties and provide basic patient care within the scope of practice.

  • Maintain compliance with AdventHealth policies and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, and imaging protocols

  • Knowledge of human physiology

  • Knowledge of scintigraphic equipment, acquisition computers, processing stations, and Hot Lab equipment

  • Knowledge of Radiation Safety principles, including ALARA standards

  • Ability to independently perform Nuclear Medicine procedures with exceptional technical quality

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new imaging technologies and software applications

  • Knowledge of Cerner, Radworks, PACS, and Nuclear Medicine Information Systems

  • Basic EKG knowledge

  • Knowledge of age-specific patient care across the lifespan

  • Strong patient care and customer service skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and complex problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills

  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office

  • Basic clerical and documentation skills

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in conversational English

Education
  • Associate Degree — Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree — Preferred

Experience
  • Previous Nuclear Medicine experience is welcomed but not required.

Licensure & Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required

  • Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine Technology (RT(N)(ARRT)) — Required

  • OR

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) — Required

  • Kansas LRT - Required
