Nuclear Medicine Technician - Nuclear Medicine - Per Diem 8 Hours Days (Union, Non)

Position Summary

Minimum of one year in acute hospital experience. Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Physician, prepares, calibrates, logs, and administers radioactive isotopes to patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures. Operates Gamma Camera imaging equipment, computers, and other isotope-sensitive devices to obtain visual representations or measurements of isotope concentration in specific body areas or organs. Utilizes effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities
  • Attends continuing education to maintain State license and participates in in-service classes.
  • Follows departmental and hospital policies; documents unusual situations.
  • Demonstrates anatomy knowledge through isotope selection, administration, proper positioning, and equipment use.
  • Records unusual conditions, exam completion times, and technologist identification.
  • Uses Information Systems programs effectively.
  • Lifts and transfers patients safely.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations regarding radioactive materials.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and medical records.
  • Maintains nuclear medicine logs.
  • Monitors supplies and orders replacements as needed.
  • Performs safety inspections on equipment and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Provides educational information to patients and families, considering pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric needs.
  • Participates in the organization-wide Quality Improvement Program.
  • Reviews requisitions, verifies examinations, obtains patient history, and explains procedures to patients.
Job Requirements

Education: Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program with certification from NMTCB or ARRT.

Work Experience: Minimum one year in an acute care setting.

Licenses and Certifications: ARRT or NMTCB certification in Nuclear Medicine, current California Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, and BLS certification.

Additional Details

Hourly rate: $52.58 - $70.68. Factors influencing offer include experience, education, skills, and organizational considerations.
