Job summary

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA, seeks a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures under physician supervision. Radiation safety, patient education, and teamwork are essential.

The ideal candidate will have a Vocational/Technical Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, 1+ year experience, and ARRT/NMTCB credentials with BCLS certification. Full-time, day shift, on-site role in Albany.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology required.
• 1+ years Nuclear Medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow proper radiation safety and protection procedures for staff and patients.
• Only irradiate the area of interest during exams and protect patients’ gonads.
• Wear radiation monitoring badges and protective gear; ensure user safety.
• Ensure proper setup to minimize repeats and verify equipment is functioning.
• Perform QA on equipment daily/weekly/monthly and document results in PACS.
• Explain exams to patients and families; review medical records and physician orders.
• Identify patients according to hospital policy; ensure correct procedure is performed.
• Document and submit required information accurately and timely.
• Maintain equipment; troubleshoot issues and adapt to new technology as needed.

The technologist is provide very good customer service; that is to treat every patient with respect, courtesy, and explain the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work together with others providing a positive work environment.

Essential Functions

• Follow the proper procedures to ensure Radiation Safety and Protection to the staff and patients.
• When performing the exam on the patient, only radiate the area of interest.
• Shield the patient's gonads region especially children and adults of childbearing age.
• Limit repeats exposures to the patients, by ensuring the equipment is set up correctly.
• Wear radiation monitoring badges at all times.
• Wear protective equipment when in the radiation field (fluoroscopic exams and or holding patients). Protective equipment-Lead aprons and gloves, thtroid shield and leaded glasses.
• Stand behind the protective barrier, when not required to be in the radiation field. Limit exposure by limiting exposure time to radiation and increase your distance from the radiation source.
• Ensure the safety of others during the exam by having them behind the lead barrier or wear radiation protective equipment during an exposure.
• Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
• Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
• Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
• Uses correct terminology.
• Conforms to required style and format.
• Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
• Understands equipment operation.
• Maintains equipment in working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems.
• Uses technology to increase productivity. Adapts to new technology
• Perform the procedures according to the department protocols.
• Identify the patient according to hospital policy.
• Ensure that the correct procedure is performed on the patient by reviewing the patient medical record and/or physicians orders.

• Set up the procedure room and (or) equipment for the exam.
• Perform the procedures according to the department protocols. Ensure the exam is properly labeled.
• QA the exam in PACS before it is release for interpretation.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA procedures on the equipment.
