Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist for casual PRN, variable shifts, part-time. You will maintain patient safety, produce diagnostic images, and support efficient exam flow in a busy imaging department.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program, NMTCB or ARRT Nuclear Medicine certification, and BLS. One year of experience is preferred; Northwestern offers tuition reimbursement, loan forgiveness, and retirement benefits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout imaging.
• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols.
• Applies professional judgment within protocols to optimize image quality.
• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action if needed.
• Administers contrast per policy and monitors patients as applicable.
• Operates imaging equipment and maintains room readiness.
• Identifies equipment issues and follows up per service processes.
• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
• Maintains documentation in medical records and image archives.
• Adheres to ethics and compliance standards.
• Upholds radiation, MRI safety, and infection prevention measures.

Responsibilities:

• Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
• Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
• Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
• Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
• Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
• Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
• Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members
• Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery
• Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth
• Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs
• Performs Nuclear Medicine imaging, inclusive of planar, SPECT/CT, and/or PET/CT imaging

Required

• Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist Program
• Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Nuclear Medicine(N)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
