Overview
This posting is for Nuclear Inspectors at Electric Boat's Quonset Point facility. Nuclear Inspectors are responsible for verifying that the structure, systems, and components built at Quonset Point, which support the nuclear reactors of submarines, meet the required standards to ensure safe operation by our sailors serving to help protect our freedom.
- Nuclear inspectors perform non-destructive testing (NDT), e.g., MT, PT, etc., of welds/materials, as well as fabrication and installation verifications for nuclear submarines.
- Inspectors execute NDT techniques according to their training and evaluate the physical conditions of systems (piping, structural, electrical, etc.) to verify materials are built to plan and standards.
- A review and understanding of drawing and specification requirements for nuclear systems are required.
This position is located in North Kingstown, RI
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1+ years of experience in construction, manufacturing, quality assurance, or repair work
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and understand basic layout functions
- Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
- Personal integrity and a commitment to uphold high standards of nuclear work
- Availability to work all shifts, weekends, and extended hours as needed
- Ability to pass a Jaeger color vision eye examination
- Ability to obtain a non-destructive test (NDT) inspection certification as required
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar skills (e.g., pipe, mechanical, electrical, shielding) based on departmental needs
- Ability to attain key department qualification/certification within the first 3 months
- Maintain certifications through periodic audits and testing
- May require obtaining and maintaining a security clearance through the Department of Defense
Preferred:
- Previous inspection and/or NDT experience
- Experience with EB certification and electronic training programs (Mainframe, Electronic Desktop, Cornerstone, etc.)
- Previous inspection/quality assurance experience
- Experience as a tradesperson or inspector in piping, mechanical, or structural fields
- Vocational, technical, or community college training or apprenticeships
- Military/Navy related experience
