Job summary

TerraPower LLC seeks a Nuclear Fuels Performance Engineer to support the nuclear fuel performance team. The role involves thermo-mechanical analysis of fuel rods and reactor core components, interface with cross-functional groups, and documentation of results.

Candidates should have an advanced degree in Nuclear/Mechanical/Materials Engineering with 4+ years of experience; familiarity with fast reactor physics, FEA tools, and programming in Python/Fortran is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Fast reactor physics and design intuition highly desired.
  • Experience with nuclear design/analysis methodologies; focus on fast-neutron reactors is a plus.
  • Experience using ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, MOOSE, or an equivalent FEA code.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and Fortran are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermo-mechanical analysis of fuel rods and core components for design, benchmarking, and irradiation testing.
  • Interface with cross-functional groups to inform and resolve design decisions.
  • Document results in reports, calculations, and test plans.
  • Design and execute sensitivity studies on modeling assumptions and tolerances.
  • Support software reviews in fuel performance modeling and related areas.
  • Develop methods to assess uncertainty and impacts on safety margins.
