Mercor connects elite creative and technical talent with leading AI research labs. Position: Nuclear Engineering & Safeguards Experts for Red Team. This remote contract role offers a challenging workload requiring deep expertise in safeguards and nonproliferation.

Responsibilities include writing prompts, evaluating model responses, and developing reference answers with rigorous technical reasoning. Flexible hours and independent work are expected to support AI model evaluation efforts.

Qualifications

• Experience in safeguards and nonproliferation.
• Background in fuel-cycle and material control.
• Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience.
• Ability to write and evaluate misuse scenarios in the nuclear field.

Position: Nuclear Engineering & Safeguards Experts for Red Team
Type: Contract
Compensation: $65–$75/hour
Location: Remote

Role Responsibilities

• Write challenging single-turn prompts in the nuclear domain, labeled as benign, dual-use, and adversarial.
• Evaluate AI model responses against a defined policy standard to judge correctness.
• Write reference answers with technical reasoning to illustrate correct responses.
• Develop prompts that test AI models' ability to discern misuse potential in technical requests.
• Provide detailed written rationales for judgments to ensure clarity for non-specialists.
• Work independently and asynchronously with flexible hours to improve AI model evaluation.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Experience in safeguards and nonproliferation.
• Background in fuel-cycle and material control.
• Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience.
• Ability to write and evaluate misuse scenarios in the nuclear field.

Preferred

• Red-teaming experience.
• Experience as a Safeguards Analyst, Nuclear Engineer, or Nuclear Security Engineer.
• Background in Nuclear Forensics or Nonproliferation Analysis.
