NSA Fort Meade offers the Summer Strategic Communications Intern Program (SSCIP) for students nationwide. Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (undergraduate or graduate) at time of application.
• Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student with at least one semester remaining.
• Specific education requirements vary by program.
• Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Must be eligible for TS/SCI clearance after background check, polygraph, and evaluation.
• Must be available for interviews Oct 2026–Apr 2027 in-person or remote.
• Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
• Two years of study in related discipline (communications, writing, editing, journalism, PR, marketing, social media, etc.).
• Other majors may be considered, but listed majors are highly recommended.

Responsibilities

• Support Strategic Communications in areas such as Corporate Communications, Multimedia production, Graphic Design, Photography, and Museum collections management.
• Work on internship descriptions and projects aligned with NSA missions.
• Contribute to accuracy and timeliness of messaging across NSA communications channels.

Join students from across the country and lend your knowledge to national security in one of NSA's over 30 summer internship programs. These 12 week paid programs run from mid-May to mid-August and are open to undergraduate freshman up to Ph.D. students depending on internship requirements. These internships are open to a wide variety of majors and give students the opportunity to work directly with mission‑critical problems and experience the excitement of working in NSA spaces. To be accepted into the NSA Summer Internship - Summer Strategic Communications Intern Program (SSCIP) candidates:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be enrolled in a degree‑seeking program (undergraduate or graduate) at time of application
• Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student with at least one semester remaining.
• Specific education requirements vary by program
• Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must be eligible to be granted a TS/SCI security clearance after successfully completing a background investigation, a Full‑scope Polygraph and a Psychological Evaluation
• Must be available and in the U.S. for operational and technical interviews and other applicable processing, both in‑person and via telephone/internet, between the months of October 2026 and April 2027
• Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
• Applicants must have completed 2 years of study in a discipline related to the assignment of interest. Fields include, but are not limited to communications, writing, editing, journalism, public relations, marketing or advertising, social media; visual arts, television production, motion picture production, or 3‑D animation; museum management, archives or conservation.
• PLEASE NOTE: Other majors may be considered, however the majors listed above are highly recommended.
• PLEASE NOTE: You may be required to complete an Unproctored Internet Testing (UIT) requirement measuring cognitive ability, motivation, and English proficiency. The NSA Summer Internship Programs at our Fort Meade, MD location offers students exciting, impactful professional work opportunities (with pay and limited benefits!) to grow their knowledge of the Intelligence Community and federal government while advancing NSA's two primary missions: 1) Collecting, analyzing, and producing foreign signals intelligence; and 2) Providing cybersecurity solutions and guidance to protect critical national infrastructure. These summer internship opportunities are open to students who are pursuing education in a variety of degree programs.

The Summer Strategic Communications Intern Program is for students enrolled in one or more of the following areas of study: writing, editing, journalism, public relations, marketing or advertising, social media; visual arts, television production, motion picture production, or 3‑D animation; graphics or photography.

Role

This Program supports the Strategic Communications organization's role of providing accurate and timely information on NSA's signals intelligence and cybersecurity missions and accomplishments to a variety of audiences using state‑of‑the‑art messaging products. Candidates will be considered for internships in one of the following areas:

• Corporate Communications, Messaging & Public Affairs: responsible for communications and major initiatives directed to both the worldwide NSA workforce and external audiences.
• Multimedia production: videography and/or animation to support corporate video production.
• Graphic Design: creating original artwork ranging from project graphics, cartooning, web graphic images, storyboarding and presentation graphics.
• Photography
• Museum collections management, archives or conservation.
