Job summary

Arete in Healdsburg, CA, seeks a NPI Test Engineering Technician to assist in developing, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting stabilized optical gimbal systems used in advanced imaging and motion platforms.

You will work closely with engineering teams to ensure precision and reliability, perform diagnostics, and contribute to NCRs and lab procedures. This full-time, non-exempt role requires travel up to 20% and US citizenship for security clearance.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in electronics and mechanical systems with hands-on assembly, tuning, and troubleshooting of electromechanical devices.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Skilled with hand tools, torque tools, soldering, crimping, and precision measurement equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with basic electronics test equipment (e.g., AC/DC power supplies, digital multimeters).

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for assisting in development and build of highly complex electro‑mechanical and opto‑mechanical systems in Healdsburg, CA. In this hands‑on role, you'll be responsible for assisting in the development, assembly, testing, system integration and troubleshooting of stabilized optical gimbal systems used in advanced imaging and motion platforms, in an AS9100/ISO9001 environment. You'll work closely with engineering teams to ensure precision, performance, and reliability in every system we deliver. These advanced technologies are primarily employed in maritime and aerial environments, where your expertise will contribute to our ongoing pursuit of excellence. This is a non‑exempt, non‑supervisory, full‑time position.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assemble, test, and troubleshoot stabilized optical gimbal systems and complex electrooptical/electromechanical assemblies
• Perform detailed diagnostics and repairs on optics, electronics, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit assemblies (PCAs), custom cable harnesses, and control system issues
• Set up and operate test apparatus for electrical, optical, and mechanical systems; adjust and calibrate as needed
• Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions; generate Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs)
• Conduct functional and performance testing using specialized equipment
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve designs, resolve technical issues, and support documentation development
• Interface with suppliers and customers as needed; support lab and field‑testing activities
• Ensure timely completion of tasks to meet customer delivery schedules
• Perform additional duties as assigned; occasional travel (up to 20%)
• Document assembly and test results; develop and maintain procedures, fixtures, and tracking systems

The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $80,000; however, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
