Job Summary

The New Product Introduction (NPI), Research & Development (R&D), Outsource Purchasing Specialist will play a critical role in the procurement process for research and development projects and new products, ensuring materials, components, and services are sourced effectively and efficiently to meet project timelines and quality standards. The role collaborates with cross‑functional teams (engineering, product development, quality, and manufacturing) to support successful product launches, manages supplier relationships, and administers major or highly complex subcontracts.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for new products, components, and materials; select best suppliers for prototyping and development.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to ensure cost‑effective procurement.
• Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, delivery, and compliance with specifications.
• Develop and maintain purchased component budgets for NPI and R&D projects, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
• Coordinate hand‑off to production buyers after launch and stabilization.
• Lead all phases of the subcontract process from business case development through proposals, management plans, negotiation strategy, and cost accountability.
• Assume lead role in selection and negotiation for unique or customer‑sensitive subcontracts.
• Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance to ensure contractual agreements, terms, and conditions are met.
• Conduct supplier site visits and assess production capability, performance, delivery, capacity, and supply chain management.
• Effectively negotiate to obtain best prices and terms for products, materials, and services.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering and program management to understand product specifications and requirements.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure that sourced materials meet NPI, R&D, and subsequent production needs and quality standards.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements and collaborate with internal and external teams to accomplish these goals.

Project Management

• Develop and maintain project timelines in conjunction with project managers for NPI and R&D initiatives.
• Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and project status for management review.
• Facilitate activities assigned within the supply chain team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five or more years of increasingly responsible procurement or project administration experience, including two or more years of high‑level project and customer/supplier management.
• Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) desired.
• Proactive self‑starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and product development.
• Familiarity with aerospace quality standards and compliance requirements.
• Ability to lead and implement continuous improvement in critical or high‑impact areas.

Compensation and Benefits

• Pay range: $76,350 to $127,400 annually.
• Participation in Annual Incentive Program.
• 401(k) plan with company matching contributions at 100% of the first 5% of pay.
