Job summary

Prisma Health seeks a Physician Assistant to provide assistant surgical services in the operating room and select medical services under the surgeon’s direction. The role includes pre/post-op support, charting for care and billing, and involvement in QA and utilization management initiatives.

Minimum requirements include an accredited PA program, NCCPA certification, SC PA licensure, and BLS. The position is based at Oconee Urology for practice operations and daily daytime shifts.

Qualifications

• NCCPA certification required.
• Current Physician Assistant licensure in the state where working.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon with prep and completion of procedures.
• Provide general surgical assistant services in the operating room.
• Assist with patient office visits and take call as assigned.
• Document care and billing through charting and summaries.
• Support quality assurance and utilization management programs.
• Contribute to development of education and patient satisfaction surveys.

Job Summary

Provides assistant surgical services in the operating room as well as other selected medical services under the direction of the surgeon.

Accountabilities

• Provides general surgical assistant services in operating room.10%
• Assists surgeon with prepping and until completion of procedure.15%
• Removes drains, tubes and catheters.10%
• Closes incisions.15%
• Assists with patient office visits and assumes call when assigned. 10%
• Performs all charting, summaries, correspondence and required paperwork for purposes of documenting care and billing. 10%
• Participates in physician educational programs provided by Employer relative to capitated medicine and implications relative to physician practice patterns. 5%
• Establishment of quality assurance programs
• Establishment of Utilization Management programs
• Selection of management information systems
• Development of patient education surveys
• Development of patient satisfaction surveys 5%

• Assists in the development of operational and capital budgets. 5%
• Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities. 5%
• Assists in post-operative care of patients including daily rounds and wound assessments. 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Education

Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent

Minimum Experience

1 year - Appropriate Clinical Experience

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

• NCCPA certification and current Physician Assistant licensure in the state in which the team member is working.
• BLS

Specific Acceptable Credentials (if applicable)

• Prescriptive Authority for state in which team member is working
• Controlled Substance license for state in which team member is working; Federal DEA license

Completion of Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program or approved Surgical Physician Assistant graduate program
