Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work under the Medical Director. You will perform minor acute illness care, order and interpret diagnostics, administer treatments, and develop management plans to ensure continuity of care.

The ideal candidate has an MS in Nursing, PA/NP licensure in Virginia, and BLS CPR certification. Prior Urgent Care or ER experience is preferred, with strong teamwork and patient-focused service.

Qualifications

• Must hold MS in Nursing and VA PA/NP licensure.
• Virginia RN license or eligibility.
• BLS Provider CPR certification required at hire.
• Two years PA experience in Urgent Care or Emergency Department preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness and patient examinations, with initial assessment and referrals as needed.
• Determines abnormal conditions via diagnostics (x-ray, ECG, labs) and interprets results.
• Administers injections, immunizations, suturing, wound and infection management.
• Instructs patients on regimens, wellness, and growth/development information.
• Develops patient management plans, records progress notes, and supports continuity of care.
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals and refers to specialists as appropriate.
• Coordinates services with staff and departments, maintaining calm, organized response to stress.
• Behaves professionally and empathetically to build trust with patients and guests.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work under limited direction of the Medical Director. Typical work scenarios may require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, good judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include patients, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, patient examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable.
• Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
• Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
• Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. May be required to supervise ancillary staff.
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care options as appropriate.
• Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services. Responds to stressful situations in a calm and rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.
• Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with patients and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with Studer Principles.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Master of Science in Nursing, required
• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Virginia or eligible required
• Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies required
• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Virginia License or eligible, required
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire
• Proficient leadership skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as part of a team, developing productive working relationships with diverse groups of people.

Preferred:

• Minimum of two years of experience as Physician Assistant in Urgent Care Clinic and/or Emergency Room.
