Nothing Personal is a new surreal comedy by Kyla Klein. Claire is a hyper-observant employee at an independent movie rental store who can read almost anyone, until a stranger removes a piece of lint from her shoulder and she can’t tell what it meant. Moving between grounded relationship comedy and Claire’s increasingly surreal inner world, the play explores attraction, intimacy, control, and what happens when analyzing an experience is easier than having one. Performances are Jan 8, 9, 15 and 16, 2027 at 7:00 PM at BlackBox Theater, 819 Camano Ave, Langley, WA. We are casting two roles: Ezra and Lint.
Readings from the script. No prepared monologue. Actors of all experience levels are welcome. Sides will be emailed to you when you schedule. We especially encourage performers from Whidbey Island and surrounding communities.

EZRA
Man, 28–40. Lead/Supporting. Curious, candid, slightly strange, and disarmingly sincere. Ezra walks into Claire’s movie store, watches her psychoanalyze other customers, and asks her to do him next. Recently single and prone to revealing far too much about himself, he is also unusually perceptive: instead of letting Claire study him, he looks back. Needs warmth, vulnerability, understated comic timing, and strong chemistry with Claire.
LINT
Any gender, 30+. Featured Supporting. Six feet of anthropomorphic lint. Magnificent. Lint appears as Claire’s tarot reader after she becomes obsessed with the lint Ezra removed from her shoulder. Blunt, theatrical, exasperated, occasionally profound, and increasingly frustrated by Claire’s need to make everything mean something. Needs bold comic instincts, physicality, and total conviction in heightened absurdity. Clown, improv, drag, cabaret, dance, or physical-theater experience welcome, not required.
