Job summary

Forum Communications Company is seeking a multimedia reporter to cover North Dakota’s oil and energy industry. The role will travel across western ND and contribute general Bismarck coverage for multiple platforms, including video journalism.

The reporter will translate complex energy topics for diverse audiences while cultivating sources across industry and government. The ideal candidate has strong reporting skills, visual storytelling ability, and comfort appearing on camera.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience using public records and data in reporting.
Strong news judgment balancing daily reporting with enterprise work.
Ability to explain technical topics in accessible language.
Experience producing video journalism or willingness to develop skills in shooting and editing.

Responsibilities

Cover North Dakota’s oil and gas industry including production and transportation.
Travel regularly to report from energy sites and communities across western North Dakota.
Monitor state and federal energy policy and explain impacts to residents.
Contribute Bismarck coverage for Forum Communications across the state and region.
Provide Legislature coverage during sessions and report on significant bills and debates.
Develop enterprise reporting and use public records to identify trends.
Build a diverse network of sources across industry and government.
Produce journalism in multiple formats including video and on-camera reporting.
