Description du poste

Position Title: North American Energy Analyst
Department: Commodities Coverage
Location: Denver, CO | New York, NY | Houston, TX (Hybrid/Onsite)
Experience Level: Experienced Professional (5+ Years, Title commensurate with experience)
Company Overview & Business Unit Summary:

MNI provides real-time macroeconomic and financial intelligence delivered directly to the world’s leading institutional trading desks, central banks, and investment firms. We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic analysts to join our North American commodities business. This is a rare, entrepreneurial opportunity to help spearhead our North American energy service. Backed by MNI’s global infrastructure and a rapidly expanding client base—spanning upstream producers, major midstream operators, downstream refiners, commodity trading desks, global banks, and private equity (PE) firms— our analysts provide key insights across the physical and financial energy ecosystem.

The Opportunity:

As a North American Energy Analyst, you will be the definitive voice on North American crude oil and/or natural gas markets and their critical role within the global energy landscape. We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter who is genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about physical energy markets—someone who is naturally motivated to build a service because they are deeply fascinated by infrastructure, logistics, and supply/demand pricing mechanics.

While you will operate with a high degree of independence over your day-to-day coverage, you will be part of a highly collaborative team dynamic. You will bridge the gap between complex fundamental modeling and high-velocity, real-time market intelligence. If you thrive on tracking physical molecules across infrastructure networks and analyzing underlying market balances, this role is built for you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on real-time North American physical market developments, supply/demand balances, inventory movements, cash pricing and infrastructure constraints across either crude oil or natural gas/LNG.
  • Interpret physical pipeline operational data, maintenance schedules, regional production trends, export flows, and transportation bottlenecks to predict structural shifts in trade flows.
  • Build, maintain, and leverage supply/demand models to evaluate market balances, seasonal dynamics, and structural supply/demand shifts and translate those into real time updates.
  • Actively participate in internal team knowledge-sharing sessions, leveraging your physical energy expertise alongside our macro analysts to formulate cohesive market perspectives.
  • Instantly translate market anomalies, operational outages, force majeures, and fundamental data releases into concise, impactful commentary for our subscriber platform.
  • Engage directly with MNI’s institutional client base, answering real-time questions about physical market dynamics and providing context on supply/demand shifts.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in energy market research, fundamental analysis, scheduling, or physical market planning with a deep specialization in either North American crude oil or natural gas markets.
  • Deep expertise in building and maintaining fundamental supply/demand models, with a strong practical understanding of how physical market mechanics—such as pipeline nominations, capacity constraints, cash pricing, and storage dynamics—directly shape those fundamentals.
  • A proven capability to quickly interpret unexpected physical market anomalies (e.g., infrastructure outages, pricing blowouts, flow disruptions) and translate them into immediate, logical conclusions for market participants coupled with a self-motivated work ethic.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a proven ability to lean on your deep industry experience to instantly distill complex physical market data, pipeline notices, and pricing points into sharp, clear, and actionable insights under tight, real-time deadlines.
  • A strong desire to work in an environment where shared expertise is critical; the ability to work highly independently while seamlessly collaborating with other experienced market professionals to drive optimal research conclusions.
Why Join MNI?
  • You will have a major seat at the table in building out a premium commodities product, with high internal and external visibility.
  • Collaborate with and work alongside seasoned energy professionals who hold significant, deep-rooted experience in the oil and gas markets.
  • Direct, daily exposure to institutional clients across the entire energy value chain.
  • Our physical office is currently based in NYC but offers remote/hybrid working option.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive remuneration package.
  • This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on individual performance and company metrics.
  • MNI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off (PTO), holiday pay, and flexible/remote work arrangements.

MNI recognises the importance of work life balance. If this challenge appeals to you, please come talk to us.
