Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with an environmentally focused regional nonprofit to recruit a Director of Finance in Washington, DC. This leadership role oversees financial management, administration, and infrastructure, serving as a strategic partner to senior management.

You will lead budgeting, audits, grant compliance, vendor and contract management, HR support, and staff development, ensuring sound stewardship and operational efficiency in pursuit of the organization's mission.

Qualifications

• Progressive leadership experience in finance and operations within a nonprofit, public-sector, or mission-driven organization.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, cash management, audits, internal controls and GAAP.
• Experience with federal grants and compliance reporting is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash management, reporting, oversight, and audits.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, policies, and regulatory reporting.
• Oversee government grants contracts, vendor relationships, and indirect cost recovery.
• Manage procurement, contract administration, and procurement processes.
• Direct administrative operations including facilities, records, inventory, and policy development.
• Partner with leadership on HR functions: recruitment support, benefits, records, and policy.
• Coordinate with auditors, accounting firms, IT consultants, and benefits administrators.
• Develop and mentor finance and admin staff while driving process improvements.
