Job summary

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger in El Paso, TX, seeks an Accounting Specialist to protect and optimize our financial flow. You will manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger operations in close partnership with the CFO, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial processes.

This role emphasizes precision, initiative, and improvements across reimbursements, purchases, and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or at least 3 years supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant billing functions.
• Experience with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit managing diverse funding sources and grant management.
• Knowledge of 2 CFR 200.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with volunteers, public and colleagues at every level.
• Strategic thinking with ability to translate ideas into actionable plans.
• Attention to detail and reliability for audit and reporting work.
• Calm, resourceful in fast-paced environment; manage multiple projects independently.
• Comfort with technology and system improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger with accuracy.
• Perform cost accounting and maintain internal controls over revenue, costs, and budgets.
• Prepare and record journal entries with backup documentation and correct errors.
• Allocate payroll, overhead, and program costs across departments and grants.
• Maintain fixed asset schedule and monthly to year-end close activities.
• Support annual audit and budgeting/forecasting with CFO collaboration.
• Contribute to financial policy development and system implementations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
