Job summary

Precision Medicine Group in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a Histology Technician to provide consistent support for the Histology Laboratory, enabling efficient department operations.

You will handle specimen accessioning, grossing assistance, processor maintenance, embedding, microtomy, staining, and quality control while upholding safety and regulatory standards. Prior experience and strong English communication are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and 2+ years of related experience.
• Visual acuity and above-average dexterity.
• Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 20 lb, with good manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Accessions specimens brought into the laboratory for processing
• Assists PA’s or pathologists with grossing in specimens
• Loading, changing, cleaning and troubleshooting histology processors
• Decalcification process of bone specimens
• Cover slipping and routine H&E staining
• Performs embedding and Microtomy
• Performs and monitors quality control within predetermined limits
• Organizes work and activities to achieve maximum productivity
• Demonstrates professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with patients, laboratory personnel, and other health care professionals
• Maintains a safe working environment, compliant with established policies and procedures of regulatory agencies, and responds positively to necessary changes in the workplace
• Complies with organization and department policies and procedures, participates in programs and activities to achieve the mission of the laboratory and assume responsibility for professional growth and development
• Responsible compliance with all ISO, OSHA, CAP, safety, and HIPAA regulations presented in training provided by Precision.
• Keep all grossing stations stocked with Histology supplies.
• Discard formalin fixed tissues.
• Dispose of red bag trash.
• Wash glassware according to protocol.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Other Required:

• Visual acuity and above average dexterity.
• At times may come in contact with viral and bacterial infections, exposure to blood borne pathogens and occasional exposure to toxic substances.
• Capable of a moderate amount of walking, standing, and/or sitting.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, minimum lifting (no more than 20 lbs), bending, stooping, normal or corrected visual, hearing and good manual dexterity are required.
• Ability to lift or carry no more than 20 pounds or pull or push no more than 50 pounds.
• Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language
