Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Palmdale, CA is seeking a Nondestructive Test Technician Level 2 to support quality programs. The role involves reviewing procedures, performing UT inspections, setting up equipment, and reporting results to ensure compliance with specifications.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma, at least 2 years in UT NDT, blueprints reading ability, and an active DOD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent GED
• Minimum of 2 years related non‑destructive experience, specifically in UT methodology
• Ability to read and interpret blueprint and engineering drawings and document non‑conformances as required
• Pass vision screen and color blindness tests
• Pass general, specific, and practical exams within a reasonable time as determined by the company
• Physical condition: can handle height or closed space phobias; able to lift up to 25 pounds, may lift 50 pounds with assistance
• Willingness to work any shift, overtime or non‑standard schedule
• Active DOD Secret clearance and ability to obtain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time
• Formal classroom certifications in ultrasonic NDT level 1 and level 2 (documentation required)

Responsibilities

• Review routers, procedures, specifications, and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform operation
• Process parts in accordance with procedures and technical instructions to evaluate for processing discontinuities exceeding specified requirements
• Operate UT inspection equipment/automated systems
• Set‑up, operate, calibrate, and perform process control checks on UT equipment per established instructions and record results
• Interpret, evaluate, and report evaluation results as required and outlined
• Fill out required logs and statistical data sheets
• Maintain required job skills and knowledge of requirements (including procedures, specifications, etc.)
• Maintain work area, equipment, and all documents/records to be audit ready at all times
• Provide on‑the‑job training to Level 1 NDT inspectors and fellow Level 2 NDT inspectors
• Assist the Level 3 in developing specific test techniques
• Complete other job duties as instructed

Basic Qualifications – Level 2

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal classroom certifications in Eddy Current NDT level 1 and level 2
• Experience with automated UT inspection systems
• Experience with multiple brands of flaw detectors
• Experience interpreting flaws in composite materials
• Positive attitude and ambition to excel/advance skills and knowledge
• Attention to detail and ability to produce error‑free products and complete paperwork accurately
• Willingness to cross‑train in other NDT methods
• Ability to work extended or flexible schedule on short notice
• Ability to work under general direction with minimal supervision
• Two‑year degree/certification from NDT training institution

• Primary salary range: $56,000.00 – $93,400.00
