Job summary

Sierra Management and Technologies, Inc. is seeking Non-Certified Pharmacy Technicians for the VA CMOP contract in Ladson, SC. The role supports pharmacists in preparation, packaging, and dispensing medications to Veterans nationwide, on-site at the VA CMOP facility.

This full-time federal contract position offers shifts 6:00 AM–2:30 PM and 3:30 PM–12:00 AM, with a contract duration of about five years. Candidates must have at least one year of experience, HS diploma, and VA background

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of prior Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must meet VA background and access requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications as prescribed, maintaining proper records.
  • Package, label, and distribute medication doses accurately.
  • Maintain inventory of drugs and supplies; stock shelves and check expiration dates.
  • Fill and stock medications in automated devices and storage locations.
  • Operate pharmacy automation systems and read NDCode with scanners.
  • Perform first-level maintenance on automation equipment and clean.
  • Follow SOPs, safety guidelines, and regulatory procedures.
  • Handle hazardous materials and waste per policies.
  • Process prescription orders for pharmacist verification in designated areas.

About the Role:

Sierra Technologies is seeking Non-Certified Pharmacy Technicians in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) contract. This position will be based at the CMOP facility in Ladson, South Carolina.

The Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician will assist pharmacists in the preparation, packaging, and dispensing of medications while ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with VA, CMOP, and federal standards. This position plays a vital role in supporting the timely and efficient delivery of prescription medications to Veterans nationwide.

Work Structure & Schedule

  • Work Type: Full-Time Federal Contract
  • Location: On-site – VA CMOP Facility, Ladson, South Carolina
  • Schedule: 1st Shift: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM; 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM–12:00 AM
  • Contract Duration: Approximately 5 years

Pharmaceutical Operations

  • Prepare and dispense medications as prescribed, maintaining proper records.
  • Package, label, and distribute medication doses accurately.
  • Maintain inventory of drugs and supplies; stock shelves, rotate stock, and check expiration dates.
  • Fill and stock medications in automated devices and various storage locations.
  • Operate a variety of pharmacy automation systems, including Autofill devices, Baker Cells, Kalish Cells, A-frames, Repackaging equipment, and electronic scales.
  • Read from computer screens and use scanning equipment to select drugs/products based on name, strength, and National Drug Code (NDC) number.
  • Clean and perform first-level preventive maintenance on pharmacy automation equipment, including vacuuming, wiping down lights, and making minor adjustments.
  • Follow all applicable SOPs, safety guidelines, and regulatory procedures.
  • Handle hazardous materials and hazardous waste in accordance with VA, CMOP, and federal policies.
  • Accurately processing and preparing prescription orders with appropriate medications for pharmacist verification in open product areas such as Controlled Substances, TCA (Total Control Area) replenishment, and Manual Hand Count stations.

Technology & Equipment Operation

  • Operate and monitor various pharmacy automation systems, including Autofill devices, Baker Cells, Kalish Cells, A-frames, repackaging equipment, and electronic scales.
  • Read from computer screens and use scanning equipment to select the correct drugs/products based on name, strength, and National Drug Code (NDC) number.
  • Perform first-level preventive maintenance on automated systems, including cleaning, vacuuming, and basic troubleshooting.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Handle hazardous materials and hazardous waste in compliance with VA, CMOP, and federal safety standards.
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, data security, and confidentiality requirements.

EDUCATION

High School diploma or GED

REQUIRED:

  • At least 1 year of prior Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Must meet all VA background and access requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 150 pounds using carts or pallet jacks.
  • Ability to stand for 8–10 hours and perform repetitive motions, including reaching and stooping.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens and operate scanning equipment.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience in mail-order, hospital, or VA/DoD pharmacy operations.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy automation equipment and inventory systems.
