Training programs and certification incentives are offered. Opportunities span several shifts with rotation; a strong emphasis on inventory, equipment integrity, and collaboration with OR teams.

Qualifications

• Non-Certified Sterile Processing Technician required basic education.
• Certified Technician pathways (CRCST/HSPA or CBSPD) preferred.
• High school diploma or GED is required for various levels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment.
• Decontaminate and clean all instrumentation according to standards.
• Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load into washer/sterilizer.
• Operate index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners and manual cleaning as prescribed.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and breakage.
• Wrap or pouch instruments to proper size and use.
• Sterilize instruments and surgical trays following procedures.
• Run tests on sterilizers and document parameter compliance.
• Handle chemicals safely with proper PPE.
• Expedite OR schedule by ensuring timely instrument availability; travel between sites as needed.

Job Description

MUSC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team in providing critical care to procedural areas across our healthcare enterprise. This position receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment including performing cleaning and sterilizing duties, and is an integral part of the daily operation of all units.

• Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment

• Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures

• Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure

• Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures

• Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly

• Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment

• Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures

• Know how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met

• Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemical s function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary

• Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner
• Ability to travel between sites as needed, based on departmental needs

Sterile Processing Technician II- High school diploma or GED, and certification throughCRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). Atleast twelve (12) months experience in sterile processingrequiredfor thisrole

Sterile Processing Technician III- High school diploma or GED, and certification throughCRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). Atleasttwo(2)years ofexperience in sterile processingrequiredfor thisrole

MUSC also offers an intensive12-weektrainingprogram for those new toour team. This includes a rotation betweensite-workand a designated training location, with training schedules rotating between varying schedules on site and 7:00am – 3:30pm at the training location.

Preferred Requirements

• Completion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist program
• Basic computer skills and use of an EMR system
• Knowledge of instrumentation
• Strong customer service and communication skills

Shift Information

Shifts are offered on varying schedules based on the needs of each area:

First shift –7:00am – 3:30pm

Second shift –3:00pm – 11:30pm

Third shift –11:00pm – 7:30am

Weekend shifts – 7:00am – 7:00pm, or 7:00pm – 7:00am

Holiday and emergency managementordisaster workisrequired.Weekend rotation may berequired.
