Job summary

Bechtel is seeking an experienced construction engineering leader for its New Albany, Ohio project. The role directs construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison activities across multi-discipline efforts, interpreting designs and supervising field verification of materials.

The position emphasizes coordinating with engineering, supporting cost and schedule control, and ensuring adherence to project procedures. Night shift availability is required as project needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (or international equivalent).
  • 10–13 years of relevant work experience or 14–17 years in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues.
  • Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship with the Project Engineer and engineering deliverables.
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
  • Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Coordinates interfacing between construction automation plan and project controls at the jobsite.
  • Directs preparation of cost estimates and related reports, forecast and progress reports.
  • Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on cost and schedule.
  • Develops and ensures implementation of project construction procedures from SWPPs and coordinates deviations.
  • Coordinates with superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules.
  • Directs preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, substitutions, services, and equipment.
  • Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing for correct materials.
  • Coordinates subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment, and quality meet design plans and specs.

Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the organization and direction of construction engineering personnel and activities relating to construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison to the design functional group. Interprets design drawings and specifications. Supervises field verification of materials. Provides technical direction to construction engineers and superintendents in a wide range of construction engineering and design functions relating to multi-discipline engineering in an area or to a single discipline on the overall project. Provides technical and administrative direction to assigned subordinate construction engineers. May provide supervision to craft personnel.

This is a nightshift role. Candidate must be willing to work nightshift as a primary shift. Candidate may start on dayshift and transition to nightshift based on project site shift delineations. Candidate must be willing to work dayshift if circumstances change making nightshift nonfeasible.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues.
  • Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables.
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
  • Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Coordinates and monitors the interfacing between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the jobsite.
  • Directs preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinates the preparation of cost reports, forecast, and progress reports.
  • Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Develops and ensures the implementation of the project construction procedures from the Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
  • Coordinates any deviations from SWPPs.
  • Coordinates with the superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules.
  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment.
  • Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
  • Coordinates subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment, and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant work experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a single discipline interfacing with all areas, or in a multi-discipline position assigned to a single area.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Familiar with Bechtel's Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety, & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes related to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts.
  • Knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor's responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
  • Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors.
  • This knowledge is normally acquired through: Performs the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines.
