Job summary

Summary

Manages the operation of the stores to achieve maximum sales performance during the evening shifts and on Sunday's. This position supervises associates assigned by the Store Manager during the evenings and Sunday's. Plays a key role within the store with employees and customers during the evening and Sunday's. Reports directly to the Store Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Achieves sales plan in the store by:
    • Ensuring the store is fully staffed.
    • New employees are trained.
    • Store is properly merchandised and is clean.
    • Cash registers have adequate change reserves.
  • Responds to long lines at the cash register by assisting the cashier or opening another register to reduce customer-waiting time.
  • Supports the corporate culture by promoting a management style of open communication, accountability and consistent treatment of all employees as well as compliance with all Federal and State laws.
  • Provides training by answering questions, giving directions and offering constructive feedback about task performance to employees. Reviews the ARC Thrift Store Employee Reference Guide with employees as appropriate.
  • Writes disciplinary actions, performance feedback for employees and communicates effectively with the employees regarding these matters.
  • Maintains daily employee attendance records for assigned departments and effectively communicates with employees.
  • Prompt decision making to resolve problems submitted by associates.
  • Ensure full accountability in daily handling of assigned store funds; register operations and accuracy in daily deposits.
  • Provide safety guidelines to employees, coach employees regarding safety issues, identify and promptly report safety concerns to the Store Manager.
  • Open and close the store as required.
  • Manages operations/replenishment production as appropriate.
  • Implement all aspects of the customer service program.
  • Implements Operations Manual guidelines for banking and cash handling to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Ensures shopping carts are in store at closing.
  • Follows closing procedures in the Operations Manual to ensure the store is secured at the close of each business day.
  • Prepares the production room for the next shift by ensuring that dropped off donations are inside store.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Store Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising associates and other supervisors as assigned by the Store Manager, in support of the overall store operations during evening and Sunday's.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Ability to identify merchandise quality and price it competitively.
  • Evidence of training, leading and guiding associates to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, external contacts and customers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write employee performance memos, which provide clear feedback to employees.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and figure percentages to effectively use operational reports.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Education and/or Experience Required
  • Two years of progressive experience in retail environment during which responsibilities were considerably increased. Managing a minimum of 5 people is required or equivalent retail thrift store experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to work with individuals possessing developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to use good judgment.
  • Energy to take on fast-paced work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good listener.
  • Well-organized and self-directed.
  • PC literate, Windows based platform
Physical Demands
  • Works inside in a production and retail environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear, stand and move throughout the store.
  • Use upper body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to dust from donations.
