The right caregiver will be steady, patient, and confident supporting dementia/Alzheimer’s-related needs such as confusion, nighttime restlessness, anxiety, and sundowning. The client responses positively to music, so candidates who can incorporate music appropriately to promote calm and connection are strongly preferred.

Key Outcomes for This Role
  • Maintain a calm and secure environment overnight
  • Prevent falls and reduce nighttime agitation through routine and reassurance
  • Provide respectful personal care support while protecting dignity
  • Use dementia-friendly communication and redirection techniques
  • Communicate changes promptly and document clearly
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and professionalism
Primary Responsibilities (Detailed)
  • Overnight Safety Supervision: remain alert and attentive throughout the shift; monitor for fall risks, wandering risk, or unsafe behaviors; maintain a safe environment (clear walkways, adequate lighting if needed, appropriate bed/chair safety per care plan); provide reassurance during nighttime wake‑ups and confusion; respond appropriately to client needs, calls or restlessness; use calm, respectful communication and short, clear cues; provide gentle redirection; support bedtime and overnight routines to reduce distress; assist with nighttime transitions (bathroom, hydration, repositioning) while minimizing disruption; recognize and respond to sundowning symptoms using de‑escalation strategies.
  • Personal Care (As Needed Overnight): assist with toileting and incontinence care per care plan; support hygiene routines (oral care, face/hands, grooming); assist with dressing/undressing and comfort clothing changes; support safe transfers and mobility (bed to chair, chair to bathroom); provide repositioning support to promote comfort and skin protection; always protect the client’s privacy, dignity, and independence.
  • Companionship and Emotional Support: provide a steady, supportive presence; engage in calming conversation and reassurance when the client is awake; encourage comfort, confidence, and emotional safety; reduce isolation and anxiety through patient presence and respectful support.
  • Music‑Supported Care (Client Preference): use music as a calming tool when appropriate (soft, familiar, instrumental or preferred genre); support relaxation at bedtime or during anxious moments; engage the client with simple music‑based interaction (listening, gentle singing, familiar songs) if welcomed; maintain appropriate volume and timing to support sleep and comfort.
  • Meal/Snack and Hydration Support: prepare light snacks as appropriate (per dietary guidance/care plan); encourage hydration and offer fluids at appropriate times; follow safe food handling and cleanliness standards; monitor for appetite changes or swallowing concerns and report appropriately.
  • Light Housekeeping Related to Care: keep the client’s immediate area tidy and safe (remove clutter, wipe surfaces as needed); laundry basics related to client care (as assigned); clean up after snacks/meals.
  • Observation, Documentation, and Communication: document relevant overnight updates per company process/care plan; observe and report changes in behavior, confusion level, sleep patterns, appetite, mobility, mood, or safety risks; communicate concerns promptly to the office/family per protocol; maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Transportation (Only If Assigned/Approved): provide transportation to approved errands/appointments if included in care plan; assist with safe entry/exit from the vehicle as needed; maintain valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicle.
Required Qualifications

  • Ability to provide personal care confidently and respectfully
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality (overnight coverage is essential)
  • Calm demeanor, patience, and strong judgment

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Social Security card
